The afternoon commute was rough for some drivers on I-81 in Virginia who had to contend with lengthy delays on Thursday afternoon.

An alert was issued by the Virginia Department of Transportation shortly before 5 p.m. when there was a multi-vehicle crash that backed up traffic for miles in the northbound lanes of the interstate.

The crash was reported in the area of mile marker 314 in the County of Frederick.

Details about the crash have not been released.
